Roll A Rhyme

1zr3wnstnvy Aaron Burden

This nursery rhyme Ed-Venture is a great way to help your child develop their language and communication skills, while you have a fun sing-song together. And, it’s easy to fit this extra bit of exciting learning into your routine - it’s perfect for after dinner, or when you have the family together.

Nursery rhymes are a genius way of teaching your children communication skills at a young age. While enjoying singing along to their favourite tunes, children are able to pick up words that they may not hear at school or in everyday language - words such as ‘fetch’ and ‘pail’ in Jack and Jill.

Nursery rhymes also introduce alliteration, for example ‘Goosie Goosie Gander, onomatopoeia such as ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’, as well as creative imagery and plenty of scenes for them to imagine. For this ed-venture, we’re providing you with a super fun Nursery Rhyme Dice, to put a spin on the classic sing-song session.

It only takes 5 minutes to prepare your Nursery Rhyme Dice. You will need:

Your trusty Nursery Rhyme dice PDF which you can download and print here.

Step 2.

The dice will have a different rhyme for each side. Show the dice to your little one and sing through the different rhymes, so they can learn to distinguish them.

Step 3.

Take it in turns to roll the dice, singing the rhyme it lands on. Enjoy your sing-song!

Bonus Ed-Venture

To give your child bonus sing-song points, encourage them to sing alone and be the star of the show. If that’s too challenging, try getting them to finish each line by themselves, gradually teaching them to remember the words, and boosting their confidence ready for the classroom.
